I'm pretty sure I just got a job before my move!

I'm excited to say the least. Before I was moving out with no place to live and no job. Now I just need to find somewhere to live.

Congrats! Just curious: Why would you move if don't have a place to live or a job? Isn't a step upwards on the career ladder the main motivation for any move?

I just graduated college last year, had an internship that gave me no movement up (I was working for a guy doing graphic design out of his house). Where I live there really are no jobs and it's not somewhere I want to ultimately be. I am moving to Park City where I know there are jobs, my brother lives there, I lived in Salt Lake for a summer and got a job within a couple days. Honestly it's because I am young and can take that risk.

Ah right, that's something I can totaly understand. I basically just got started at university in germany and am looking to spend some semesters in the US or England.

I have heard that the situation for college graduates is much more difficult in the states, many people just go from intern to intern, either unpayed or heavily underpayed.

It all depends on what field you go in to and how good you are. Personally, I went in to the art field and did graphic design. There are jobs out there, but they want to see really incredible different stuff which I just don't have to be able to get a job right away. If I was able to sit around and apply to jobs every day everywhere I could probably find something, but i am picky about where I want to be which cuts down on job prospects. For a lot of jobs like that, it is also who you know. So much about jobs is who you know. Once I get out there I will be able to network and possibly find something in graphic design or even do things on the side. It's an interesting business I went to college for

I'd say that's a gross exaggeration, although a lot of it depends on the degree you come out with and where in the country you are. I had a well-paying full-time gig lined up almost a year before I graduated, but I have friends who spent 6 months looking for a job after school.

By and large, though, most I know who wanted real jobs, are intelligent, and put in the effort have real jobs with real paychecks.
